“Agia Sofia General Children Hospital” Integrated Informatics System

On 14 January 2004, the Integrated Informatics System Intrahealth of Intracom SA was installed in "Agia Sofia" General Children Hospital (one of the biggest European Hospitals), in order to serve Medical, Administrative and Financial processes of the Hospital. MediSign participated as subcontractor of Intracom SA, developing the medical and administrative sub system of Intrahealth application. These sub systems are based on MOS platform and were connected successfully with the Laboratory Information System (LIS) MediLab of CCS SA and the applications of General and Analytic Accountancy.
Java and PHP used as development languages. Oracle 9i was the database server, while central servers used Microsoft Windows 2000.
The advantages of web based development appearred soon in sectors as:
  • considerably lower cost of installation
  • the exceptional facility of upgrades of such a big application of 250 and more users
  • the possibility of direct intervention via remote access
  • the relative independence from hardware and operating systems.
Agia Sofia General Children Hospital
The application follows a clear network philosophy and is an implementation of an Integrated Informatics System. This means that all sub systems function in connection with one another, in order to save time and offer a modern and efficient environment of work for the executives of Hospital. An example is the following processes:
  • the medical prescriptions of medicines are automatically available in the nursing personnel
  • following, with minimal interventions the system sends the orders to the Drugstore
  • Drugstore has available the orders online and after performing the orders, the inventory is updated automatically
  • Patient Accounts Department has, at any time, available all debits that have been created (indicatively: hospitalisation days, medicines prescripted, laboratory examinations performed), which are priced automatically depending on the pricing policy of each Insurance Organization.
At the same time, MediSign developed the Hospital Web Portal.
MediSign also participated actively in the support phase of productive operation of the Intrahealth application. Beyond the common technical tasks, the target was the familiarization of the users in the efficient use of system, a critical factor for the successful implementation of every Informatics System.
